MURRAY COUNTY, GA -- A story of top-to-bottom corruption of the justice system is moving forward in northern Georgia. Two police officers have plead guilty on charges related to a conspiracy to frame an innocent woman. A judge is still under investigation.
The story begins with Angela Garmley, age 36, meeting with a Chief Magistrate Judge to discuss an incident in which three individuals had assaulted her. During the meeting Judge Bryant Cochran made it clear that her case would not move forward unless she gave sexual favors to him and requested that she become his mistress.
Judge Cochran gave Angela a direct order to return to his office wearing a dress and no underwear so that they could have sex. He said that he had “a real boner for her.”
She was coerced into sending him a photograph but did not comply with his requests for sex. She then moved to filed a lawsuit against the judge.
In retaliation, the judge concocted a scheme to frame up Angela Garmley with enough drugs to get her decades in prison. He organized two different groups of people to set up the plot. One of the judge’s employees planted a metal can full of methamphetamines on Garmley’s car, and then two corrupt cops were tasked with targeting her on the road and busting her with the drugs.
"The judge, two deputies, and a handyman named C.J. who is employed at Judge Cochran's property conspired to plant the drugs on my client. And if the frame-up hadn't been discovered my client would've been facing 25 to 30 years in prison," said McCracken Poston, Angela’s attorney.
Capt. Michael Henderson and Deputy Josh Greeson have both plead guilty to charges related to the conspiracy. Judge Cochran has resigned and remains under investigation. Several other women have stepped forward to complain of sexual harassment committed by Judge Cochran.
