Comfort items to me are along the same lines as many have mentioned, candy. Yes I think some degree of candy is a good thing, but not if you're getting into it now. I see good solid hand tools as another comfort item to me. Something about knowing I've got some good strong real rope, a good axe, a good shovel, a good saw etc. Everyone spends too much time on guns and & ammo for prepping and not enough on things they'll actually use.
Besides candy, I have a little solar setup that charges anker battery backups. Those are kept charged, but I have LED lights that are easily strung up and run off the battery backup, flashlights, radios, and whatever other electrical device can all be charged off the usb power banks. Those are a comfort item to me. The grid may be down, zombies at the doors, but if the kids haven't touched their I-pads in 3 weeks then the world will likely end soon.
