I was checking over my tent and found my rain fly has torn near one of the tie downs along the seam. What's the best way to repair this for the long term?

    What is it made of?

If sil-nylon I've used the repair kit McNett sells with good success, though the repair needed to be refreshed a couple of times per year.

Honestly? Contact the company that made the tent, buy a replacement rain fly.

Barring that, and if you're trying to do this inexpensively, you can stitch the tear together using WAXED dental floss, then coat the stitches with silicone seam sealer.

I would go the patch route if possible. Polyester is usually used in fly material rather than nylon since UV is an issue.
