I had to do a function check / zero on a rifle today and also took along my fairly low round count EDC gun - Steyr M9-A1. I think I've run <500 rounds through it since new. I ran it at a class last summer and had 1 similar problem that took it out of action for a while there too. A small sliver of brass got under the extractor jamming the action.

Today, I swapped out my defense ammo for some Remington green box 115 gr. hollow point. 1st shot went boom, 2nd went click. I tried 5 more rounds, all click, no boom. Another very small sliver of brass got into the firing pin hole! I flicked it out with my fingernail and 10 shots in a row went boom. :dunno:

The pistol has an upgraded extractor spring. I'm guessing this is causing the very very small slivers taken from the case rims. The OEM spring is going back in ASAP.

I guess I'm wondering how normal is it to have debris get into an area of a pistol and take it out of fighting condition?

It might be time for a torture test before my EDC gains back my confidence.

It was a good time even with this little problem...
    The M1A rifle ran great.
    10ring's new suppressor sounded great.
10ring's 300 AAC Blackout SBR was a fun shooting gun.
The kid even shot her 10/22 compact pretty good too.
