For those of us who may be inclined to sit down with a book and take some notes, I've recently been looking for a recommended author and/or titles on firearms training. On a recent visit to the library, it so happened there where a couple titles that appeared to have some good credentials, however all had been checked out except for one. The author is Massad Ayoob, a well known author and instructor in the gun community, the title is Combat Shooting. Anyone read this - have any opinions they would like to share? Other book recommendations? :twocents:

The Law of Self-Defense: A Guide for the Armed Citizen by Andrew F. Branca is a "must read" in my humble opinion. You'll learn more about the basic laws on the subject here than almost anywhere else.

BTW, most libraries will order and keep on the permanent shelves books that you request. I filled up the Lake County Library system with about a dozen "pro gun" and "ccw" books a few years ago. Almost all of the libraries have the "anti gun" books almost by default. We should have equal space on the shelves and if your library lets you suggest books to order, then go for it.

I just finished Jeff Coopers "Principles Of Personal Defense" for the 3rd time. It only takes about 30 minutes to read the entire thing. It's more of a booklet than a book but it is filled with outstanding information. I think anyone that carry's or keeps a gun around for personal protection should read it multiple times.

You can find it at Amazon.
Principles Of Personal Defense: Jeff Cooper, Paul Kirchner, Louis Awerbuck: 9781581604955: Amazon.com: Books

If you aren't the paying type, a Google search would probably net you a PDF of the book.

Thanks for participating guys! Good to hear there are some knowledge seekers out there. I know books aren't a substitute for hands on training or experience, but as i was once told- it never hurts to seek additional knowledge about your interests
On a woodworking forum i belong to, there is a subforum specifically for recommended reading. That way, posters who have questions can be referred to valid sources so they don't have to second guess some of the feedback they may get.

Not to hijack, but for those interested Mas Ayoob is doing a couple courses this summer at The Sand Burr Gun Ranch in Rochester.
    Sand Burr Gun Ranch: Calendar
No hijacking charges will be placed:): I had Ayoob in mind for a mentor of some sort- maybe starting a thread on well respected firearms trainers, lets say start with a list, eventually add biographies, accomplishments, works published, hats, t-shirts, mugs, trading cards, .....sorry, couldn't resist:D
