I just brought this project home 2 days ago.

I had dropped this off with a gunsmith in Cody, WY while on vacation last summer, and just went back to pick it up. I had this done by Randy’s Custom Rifles in Cody.

I bought a stock Remington 700 Sendero about 10 years ago. It was a 300 RUM, and I’ve since had second thoughts about the caliber. That’s a different topic, but end result is now a 338 WIN MAG.

Randy replaced the factory barrel with a Hart barrel, fluted it same as the factory Sendero barrel, blueprinted the action, glass-bedded the factory stock, polished the feed ramp, and installed a muzzle brake. I had previously installed a Timney trigger which we kept. The overall look is pretty much the same but it’s a different animal now!

First time I shot the rifle since bringing it home. This was my best 3-shot group this morning at 200 yds. Wind was about 3mph but basically a tail wind. Sun was in my eyes. The ammo is some stuff I had reloaded but not specifically for this barrel. I think I’ll get it tighter with some experimentation, but less than 1-inch at 200 yds ain’t a bad start!

That is what I was expecting. Gotta hold real tight on a big Win Mag like that (or put it on a rest).
When I fired it this morning I used a lead sled, but I find them difficult to get good shoulder position, hard to get comfortable. But I was amazed at the lack of recoil. Usually a 338 will slam the lead sled hard enough to knock it back several inches even using weights. But this morning I was anticipating the big slam but it literally recoiled less than my .243. Amazing. Going back to a good old fashioned sand bag next time.

Glad that brake is doing its job.
