Its made by Zavasta, the same folks that made the rifle imported as the Interarms Mark X for 30+ years.

They've been building Mausers at that plant in Yugoslavia for damn near 100 years (maybe longer).

If you're seriously considering one, look closely for a Charles Daly model instead of the 798, they were the last importer before Remington picked them up - the rifles so marked bring about $320 with a synthetic stock, compared to the 798 laminate at $490+.
