    You can't. Lots of people like to send a PM thanking for rep, but the rep system isn't really designed for directly replying to rep. The rep system, I think, was meant to be one-way communication.

    Whenever you receive rep click on the user's name that you received the rep from and click on the send message icon under their profile picture and post a visitor message or send a private message.

    I say thank you the same way.Usually they are new menbers with very few rep and post count so that doesn't even change my rep count.

    The more rep and the most post you have, the more rep (negative or positive) you can give to others.

    So dont **** off someone with 10 000 posts and a zillion of rep badges. ;)

    Good advice. A couple of those people also have banhammers. (not that we'd use them just for a neg rep, of course. :D)
