What would be required carry into battle in today's environment?
What calibers, and how many magazines each?
And other gear that one would take?

    Mine: AR-10 with 12 + 1 Mags, M1911A with 6 +1 Mags and my Father's black K-Bar knife used in Vietnam. Recent use: M4 5.56x45 12 + 1 Mags M9 9MM 6 + 1 Mags (Limited) and after market K-Bar knife.

As someone who played these hypothetical mind games early on in my gun owner journey, I would suggest taking a moderately demanding training class with whatever gear you think you'll need.

Odds are, you'll find you don't need or want half of it, and you'll be missing something you never had even considered.

Mission drives gear. I bought a lot of stuff I thought I needed, much of it I don't have anymore.

Same here, I've done not enough and too much of gear I didn't need. Mission is what it's all about. But the environment today may not be the same tomorrow.

A gun on you whenever possible. A rifle available for your use when mobile.
What semi auto polymer striker fired 9mm should you carry I don’t care. What semi auto rifle I don’t care. I would expect the rifle to have a low power optic and a light. I would not think that should be require.

if there is a battle my mission will be to stay away from the battle.

    Define "battle".

The broadest possible spread can basically be taken from any line infantry in any first world country:

-Modern rifle in a modern caliber.
-Helmet and at minimum a plate carrier.
-Load carriage for 7 accessible magazines plus one in the rifle, water for a day, emergency medical, and communications or mission gear as applicable.
-Boots and clothing you can walk and live in for several days at a time.
-A backpack you can wear all day with load.
-Base load of things you need to live out of that backpack, without shelter.

Equipment isn't what makes a warrior, the ability to accomplish tasks is.

I have none of the battle ready stuff. What would you all recommend for a start, like a vest.. I've got a soft rifle case with a bunch of pockets, I have about 6 or 7 mags, 30 rd, and 20 rd, and about 250 rounds of ammo, some loaded, some in boxes. It is my so called grab n go case....

    Who are we battling?

Gang bangers? ANTIFA? BLM/anti-semites? East or west coast urban socialists? College student "protestors"? Hamas or other terrorists?

If we are talking foreign enemy in a foreign land, then wouldn't we learn in boot camp and other military training what our gear will be?

At the very least, you need someway to hold spare mags on your person.

    Then go from there…

    I use older stuff.

Physical fitness plays a big role in the situation. If can function with a heavy kit go for it.
Combat is extremely draining water is an essential that adds weight as well. I suggest the lightest kit you can function with.

IMO carrying more than two extra pistol mags is a waste. You have to save weight anywhere you can. Your pistol is a secondary back up weapon not a primary. Military's do not issue pistols to the rank in file because they are not needed.

Difference is military exclusively operate as a team. Trading a pistol for two or three rifle mags is always smart, unless you have no cover and no backup whatsoever when your rifle goes down.

Granted I do have to wonder what you're doing in the first place if you find yourself partying alone with your rifle against a bunch of armed opposition.

    Gotcha,
I attempting to convey that carrying like 6 pistol mags is a waste. In the situation given a Pistola is needed for a lone wolf.

I guess this is like "mad max" situation?

This is why I've decided to go with a 10/22 with 3x 25rd magazines for my battle rifle.
TX22 for my pistol. I can also carry 500rds of ammunition without much problem.

This will give me the ability to pack a lot of lifesaving food.

I've even got a battlemobile picked out.
