Maybe this has been discussed before but I am currently in the Smokey Mountain National Park and while the visitor center is posted, the restroom facilities are not.

I had always thought that all building were off limits but in my mind, no sign + OK to carry.

If you go IN to a building for a restroom break - you'll be in violation.

If the restrooms have "outside" / general access - you'll be just fine.

Visiting an interpretive center? Best to leave it in your vehicle - as unfortunate as that is.

Been to a few National Parks of late and restrooms are fine as long as the entrance/exit is not inside of a building where employees are located. Both Wright Brothers National Memorial in Nags Head NC and so did Cades Cove TN had everything very well posted.
