Well now, the bloom is definitely off the rose as the Dec 10 issue of RS has an article about Obama selling out by bringing in a bunch of Wall Street insiders. This is from a rag that ALWAYS takes a far left position in such matters. Since Osama began his run for office, he has appeared on the cover of RS 4 times!

Let's hope it's only a matter of a short time until more media outlets move into this position. I expect an approval rating in the single digits by the end of 2010, if not sooner. :):

It's important to remember that Rolling Stone is upset because Obama isn't socialist enough. It's not like they're wanting him to be a small-government, laissez-faire kinda guy who lets the market take care of itself.

    Correct.

But this kind of thing is still meaningful for people who'd like to see the .gov take a different direction.

One of the reasons Obama was able to sweep Congress and win the White House is that he had the full enthusiastic support of the Way Far Left, as well as appealing to a lot of Left-Leaners, and a number of people who might actually lean Right on some issues but were just tired of Bush.

That's usually the formula when you win: you've been able to bring together a lot of disparate elements into a coalition.

Then you have to try to hold that coalition together, which is a lot harder job. If you do everything the Way Far Left wants, you'll make the Left-Leaners nervous and totally lose the Right-leaning Bush Fatiguers. If you try to move toward the Center, you'll lose the Way Far Left in your base.

This will be a problem in upcoming elections. Particularly in voter turnout. The folks who came out in droves to campaign for Obama and stand in line to vote for him might just might sit the next one out if they feel he has betrayed the Bolshevist principles they hold dear.

The other problem, especially in pleasing the Way Far Left, is that you run in to reality. These folks tend to be more than a little utopian, and they're not very tolerant when you have to negotiate with reality. Disclosure: I lean more to liberty issues than either the Donkeys or Elephants, and I have to be fair and say that libertarians are among the worst to get disaffected whenever our most idealistic policies aren't instantly enacted.
