WebSnyper - you said they would not let you handle the firearm? I would tell them they can keep it and refuse to pay. That's pretty ridiculous.

Yeah and dat's the truth man.

Kidding aside, if they told me I couldn't handle it first my response would include where to put it besides the case.
I've considered a firearms purchase from them but now upon learning that, eh.

I just purchased a gun from them, never again. Couldn't test the trigger, very slow processing of transaction and then you get escorted out of the store. They take your money, then treat you as a security threat-----total BS!

Mirror image of my transaction! Smokin Deal, 1 Hour + for the transaction, Never Again! I did witness a Dad and Grown Son pick out a Handgun for Mom. They were refused Sale because the clerk ststed it was a "Straw Purchase"...........

I've purchased 3 times at the Greenwood store, they always let me handle them before ringing me up. I've also purchased at Cabellas and they escort you out also, no big deal to me.

Yeah, I will say their interpretation of a "straw purchase" is BS. The whole trigger thing, is what it is.

I always hated buying from RK anyway. Prices usually aren't great. Charge shipping to sell their own guns at their own stores. Orders process way too slow for a big retailer.

Then you get to the store and it's like: Can I try the trigger? NO. Can I inspect my gun without eight lookie-loos breathing down my neck, chewing popcorn? NO. Can I inspect or function check it period? NO. Can I just take it without being frog-marched out of the store? NO.

I was buying a SAR pistol a little while back and they didn't even want to open the case and let me check it out. I argued with them, got them to open the case, and it was the WRONG FREAKIN' GUN! They had to scrap the whole transaction and do it again! They went with the serial on the order form and never bothered to confirm that the gun the bozo manager grabbed off the shelf was actually the gun I ordered, and that was after a 30+ minute charade of acting like they didn't receive the shipment when I had tracking information right there with the name of the guy who signed for it. They tried to convince me "oh sometimes those tracking numbers aren't real you know", then somehow mysteriously "found" the gun after I made them check again...the wrong gun. They were gonna let me walk out the door with a random gun, and lord only knows the mess that would have happened later.

A friend of mine who already owned several guns and a LTCH got a NICS delay on an online order during one of the big gun rushes. Waits five days instead of three, goes to RK to pick up his gun, NO. They'll keep your money and your gun and if NICS never gets back to them, tough s***. He ended up eating a cancellation fee and buying through an LGS who, surprise, received an immediate proceed on the check.

I won't give RK another cent. It's a palpably hostile buying experience. I'm honestly surprised they haven't graduated to pat-downs and gun/knife confiscation at the entrance.

Wow, there are quite some stories here, just wanted to give an updat on my "lost" order. Somehow when i ordered the pistol, I also ordered a magazine to get the free shipping, seems they ship out of seperate warehouses so one order was waiting for the other and vise versa. Well their customer service person corrected this, gave me $10 off the firearm to equal out the shipping, and gave me the 12% off rebate because that is the special running right now. I just hope I am not in for a run around when I go to pick it up, sensing some patterns here.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like they are making it right on the internet order part. Interested to hear how your in store experience goes.

My son-in-law and I bought shotguns online during the Black Friday sale. When we picked them up, they just handed us the guns in the box and said have a great day. No escort to the door. This was at the Noblesville store.

So far it seems that there's some annoying corporate CYAs and otherwise experience varies by store.

Columbus is OK. staff are average for a dept store and understand our frustration. Other than the interminable wait it isn't bad. Average prices are about on par with frequent specials and sales that can make them stupid cheap if it's what you're looking for (sign up for the newsletter) flat $10 shipping+transfer fee isn't bad and is made up for by no tax online.

RK charges tax for online sales as they have a presence in the state, at least that was my experience.

Grab a Gun on the other hand does not (no presence in the state).

And the story continues, 2 calls to RK customer service, 2 seperate promises to have the firearms shipped out immediately and a call with a tracking number. And nothing. Against possible better judgement I am going to call Friday and see what is up. But I am very disappointed in them, not sure if I will ever buy from them again, definately can't recommend them.

I didnt read all of this thread but i wouldnt go straight to rk to buy firearms. Just because a store has the best price, it doesnt mean you cant get it cheaper. By this i mean Academy sports will price match and beat any advertised price by 5% as long as the item number is the same. I did this with an m&p 2.0 a couple weeks ago.

I have never ordered online from them but our local RK in Jasper has been great. And the guys behind the counter actually know guns. They don't have the best selection but the prices are hard to beat. As for the walking out the store bit, yes it's goofy, but it's probably the policy of their business liability insurer. In today's lawsuit happy climate it's really hard to blame them for such a small thing. The few Walmarts around that still have the same practice, and I'll bet other big box stores do too.

The OP is from Fort Wayne and it appears the closest Academy is Terre Houte so that wouldn’t be an option for them.

I've bought a couple of guns from RK off the shelf.

Appreciate all of the stories - the escort out the door is goofy. Never bought one in Bloomington, but have heard they require a case for leaving the store - doubly goofy. I will tolerate the no-dry-fire rule if the price is killer, because if I'm there to buy, I already know what I want. Tried to buy online once, but when they wanted to add a shipping charge (from a retailer to their own store!) - I declined. And I would NEVER take delivery of a gun without being able to examine it first - that's a deal breaker and just plain stupid.

No more RK gun purchases for me.
