How did they make 3 times more for parting them out? Do police department's get that great of a discount on accessories? I understand how they got the gun's, just not clear on how they expected to get away with selling FA parts?

they do it with guns like mini uzi and micro's where parts are hard to come by as pretty much the only source is cut up post samples/leo guns.....

dont limit the guns they could have bought to m16 we have tons of those parts. think out side the box

as i recall ssnfa made some money on cut up grease guns, aka parts same concept except those were purchased for the right reasons way back when by the pd.

The above is a good point. A cut up used MP5 for example will bring from $1500 to upwards of $2K all day long in today's market.
I bet a post-sample on dept letterhead is less than that.
If they were spending someone else's money, it's 100% profit too...

Looks like from another story that they were parting out HK 416's for the uppers and selling them. Those things command BIG $$$$. You could make a lot of money without selling unregistered machine guns, if you didn't sell the lower. Don't know what they did with them though.

ETA: The charges didn't have anything to do with selling machine guns. They were for lying to an FFL and other fraud charges.
