I just picked up a Smith & Wesson Model 36 in fantastic condition (95-99%). I really didnt need it, but I think I got a great deal at $250. It is blued with a Serial Number of 5J35**. Any Idea of the Date it was manufactured??

I'm new to Smiths revolvers so any information will be helpful.

    Thanks INGO!!:ingo:

No box, But he included the original grips along with the Pachmyers (SP) and a nice leather belt holster... He also had the original box of ammo that he bought with the gun and it was missing 20 Rounds... they ammo looked OLD... So I really do trust it only has 20 rounds down the barrel.

And what is up with the round thing under the cylinder, to the left of the s&w logo? In photos It looks as if finish is worn off there but up close it just looks like thays the way it came. The trigger looks like it has rust on it in photos, but up close, it does not. Just looks like hardened steel

That is a Chiefs Special.. awesome deal he found!

It was actually called the chiefs special before 1957 when they started putting model numbers on them.now they are known as the model 36. I just picked one up that was made in 1962, probably about 90 percent. Didn't pay anything for it! Traded some labor!
    I love barter!

This was the first time I found a good deal on a firearm... I usually find my self finding things go on sake about a week after I make a purchase.. not meaning to brag about it, just wondering how good of a deal i made... so, what would you expect to pay for this?
