The computer "glitch" that inadvertantly shut down the EBT cards was timed perfectly to show the Republican leadership that they need to come back into line with the will of the supreme leader. No Republican was willing to be responsible for the chaos and anarchy that would ensue if the EBT was shutdown due to a lack of funding for any period of time.

Those that are disgusted with the Republicans for "caving" should be more disgusted with the display of force by the Executive branch last Saturday.

I believe that the computers that run the SNAP/EBT programs could become a target for those who wish this country to be brought to its knees.

This is very worrisome to me because if funds to these people who need it is cut-off, they have proven that they will become vilolent very quickly.

Or...it could've been just a bug. I write software for a living and I've seen some of the biggest, most important pieces of software fail. Look at NASDAQ, it just had a bug not that long ago that brought down the whole trading system. 2003's massive blackout was caused by a bug in one of GE's home-grown monitoring systems. I think that little number cost a couple billion dollars. Software flaws happen, something as simple as an incorrect decimal point or using an integer instead of a floating point could have catastrophic results. It may not even be software related. Hardware flaws happen just as often and there's no one exempt from outages. Not the government, not Microsoft, Google, Amazon, or anyone. There's never been (and never will be) an organization that has 100% up time on their computer stuff.

    It's not possible.

first off, ^^This... software screws up CONSTANTLY... Hardware shorts out, burns up, or generally kills itself pretty damn regularly...

Not everything is some conspiracy aimed at bringin down the Republican Party... besides, they appear to be doing a hell of a job with that anyway. They don't need any help.

"This is very worrisome to me because if funds to these people who need it is cut-off, they have proven that they will become vilolent very quickly."

I would like to point out that it is animal instinct to do whatever it takes to provide for yourself and family in the absence of resources... If your son needed antibiotics and the last bottle of them for 1000 miles was sitting in front of you, you'd kill or die trying to make sure that it was YOUR kid and no one else's that survived... I don't agree with the "free" shopping sprees people went on, no one needs TV's and all kinds of random crap... but when it comes to food, that's a completely different story...

Don't worry, someone will be along shortly to calm you all down and assure you that i'm just a socialist with his hand out...

Don't know as I care whether it was a software glitch or a planned "demonstration" by our Worthless Leader; the fact that we are (at the very most) two disruptions of the Monthly Handout away from full-fledged anarchy just shows how far we have dropped as a society under the decades long ministrations of Big Government.

Someone above mentioned the "animal instinct" to steal or kill for what you need. That may be the case; but others will have to put those animals down.

Why should Republicans care? It's not like they'd be losing any votes that they would have otherwise.

I read about people trying to game the system and buy way more stuff than could possibly be paid for by their EBT card, but I DIDN'T hear or read about any riots.
The report I read said that when the system came back on, people just walked out, leaving their overloaded carts in the aisles.
The police were called out of concern about the huge crowds, but, apparently, there were no riots.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Amazon's best SLA is better than the .gov (non-military).

As I understand it the Obamacare website was developed by a Canadian company that the Canadian Gov't fired due to incompetence, their task was to develop a web based healthcare system for a province in Canada. Could the EBIT/SNAP snafu be a diversion from more US Gov't incompetence being discovered and explored in depth?
    Hmmmmmmmmm (conspiracy theory)

CGI has had some failures and successful projects. But the HBIC didn't finalize the specs until last Spring. CGI has been trying to hit a moving target, a sure catalyst for disaster. If there's any single entity to blame I'd say it's the incompetance of the people Obama put in charge of implementation, including the HBIC herself.

So most companies that feel a responsibility to their customers run redundant systems because of software and hardware failures. Not .gov apparently. Seems like EBT would have redundancy.

Yep, heard that last night and will agree that developing software to function properly without proper finalized requirements is definitely a major highway to failure. I will also agree that Obama put the wrong people in charge of this which continues to reinforce my opinion that the Obama regime really is incompetent in many cases.
