Brooms are useful to clean up the brass.
we try to leave the are as clean, or cleaner, than when we got there.

I won't be there, I have to work.
But, ask questions. Don't stay quietly on the sidelines. Introduce yourself.
If you don't get something answered, there will be other days.
Some of us may post in the NWI discussion thread about going shooting, to see if anyone wants to go.

The summer months tend to have more attendance than fall.

Also, you may want to look on INGO for Appleseed events.
They have great rifle training, with some interesting history thrown in.

BTW I'm about to make Gunbunnie's head explode.
Went to KMart as well today and was browsing the magazine to pass the time while the family got what they needed.
There was a magazine on military surplus rifles.
I learned today that both the BAR and M1919 Browning MG used the .30-06 round.
Yes, yes make fun of me. I knew the Garand used .30-06 and knew that the other two used a 'big round' just never stopped to think that it was.
Figured it was the .308 WIN since I consider that round big.

So why did we drop the .30-06 caliber in the armed forces?
    Too heavy, too much recoil?

Sorry jedi, I dont have a pickup. I just went homedepot this afternoon and checked the size of my car, even laydown the read seat, there still have no enough space for 4*8 plywood. I guess I will just donate cash.

because back in the old days when you were just a child wrapped in swaddling rags the technology of powder was not as advanced as it is today, but it was beginning to advance and they were able to get nearly the same performance out of the 308 as they had been getting out of the older, bigger, heavier 30-06

I probably won't be able to go to this. I start 12 hour nights the night before and therefore would be up all Saturday night at work, Sunday at the M&S, and Sunday night at work again. Unless I'm feeling unordinarilly energetic, gotta count me out :(

If I did show I couldn't stay long since I have to be back home by 2p to be with my son because my fiance has to go to work. I probably won't even send much led downrange. More meet than shoot. Still up on the air tho because I do want to attend.

Jedi, you know the 30.06 really isn't all that bigger or heavier than a 308 Winchester cartridge. The bullet diameter is the same in both rounds, and the same bullet weights can be used in both cartridges also. The main difference which brought the 308 to military service was the shortening of the case length which shortened the receiver length required to function the round. This lowered the weight and length of the firearm that fired the round. With modern powders today the 30.06 still gets about 200 fps more out of the cartridge than the 308. Now if you want to talk about large cartridges you should be looking at the 50 BMG or the 338 Lupua. Those are large cartridges.... My 1919 can run 30.06 or 308 and I have a friend with the parts to run 8mm..... if you look hard you can also find change over kits for the 1919 to run 303 british too.... I will stop now as I'm sure this is off subject.....
