I was one of those members of the flight crews you speak of...Eastern Washington in the mountains in December. Good times. the field part was kinda cool. I learned alot. the resistance part, not so much. I have fond memories of it now, but at the time i just wanted it to be over.
Had a couple classes as part of our Reconnaissance School training and a short class prior to deployment to Viet Nam. Then we had practical application exercises over in Nam.
I have just seen a fair amount of "experts" of recent vintage who offer advice based on self guided training
But the "bug out" concept (a concept with questionable viability in the first place) seems a sere concept turned 180 degrees out, but with a similar underlying skill set
