I think this part of the article should have been expanded upon a bit more:

In the past two months, county officials have made allegations that later proved incorrect regarding Sheriff's Office spending

Because it sort of sounds like there might be a pattern of false allegations being made by certain county officials against the Sheriff, more than likely for political reasons.

This is what happens when you thumb your nose or raise your voice at those in the oblong circle office building.

Whatever skeletons you have in your closet, real or 'manufactured' will come out.

Anyone ever wonder how hard it would be to "find a secure computer" in someones office if you were [STRIKE]a fed[/STRIKE] a janitor?

Could be. It does fit the liberal MO.

I used to be a fan of the guy as much as anyone here. I bought his autobiography for my grandfather back in the 90's. But the more I read about him over the past few years, the more he looks like a run of the mill crooked politician/cop.

Maricopa County probes Sheriff Joe Arpaio's employee database

Not a fan at all. I've read extensively about him and he's got real problems. Reminds me of an old time political boss. He's popular with the people, but runs his kindom according to his own whim.

Not to mention that you can end up in county jail before you're convicted of anything. You shouldn't be subjected to any more humiliation than is already inherent in the system.

If all county jails were operated like his, crime would be less. In this case, I believe the ends justify the means.
So, it's OK to disarm the law abiding to stop gun related crimes? The ends justify the means, after all.

And, if his system works so well, why is there still crime in Maricopa county? Doesn't seem to work very well, especially when we take into account how many unserved warrants he has hanging out.

I don't think the ends EVER justify the means. The means are just or unjust because of their nature, not the good intent you have. I could attempt to kill all the communists with good intentions, but it is not justified because it is morally wrong. That being said, I don't know much about this sheriff, I'd have to do my research before picking a side.

Fletch, Dross and MrJarrell....the gangs all here.
I'm not joking when I say I used to be a fan. I still am, in some respects. I love the fact that he has (or had) "posses" of volunteer citizens to help in things like search & rescue, instead of the usual supercilious "leave it to the professionals" attitude you get in so many other places. I think that's a great thing, and I wish more departments did it.

I also admire the attitude of getting the job done even if the higher-ups are hamstringing your efforts. I think more folks in all sorts of different careers should have that attitude.

What I don't like is the lax attitude toward procedure and the rights of the accused. I don't like the presumption of guilt as an institutional attitude. And if any of this other stuff pans out with the misappropriation of funds, I'm going to like that even less.

America has a real problem with the wild divergence between the ideal and the reality of our criminal justice system. The average moron on the street believes the fantasy sold in shows like CSI, where supposedly everyone's "only after the truth" and people are only convicted if they are factually guilty. Reality is much, much uglier, and it's high time we started paying attention to it, before people we care about start getting pulled into the meatgrinder.

All it takes to dispel those illusions is to be or know someone who experiences the system on any level as a suspect or accused person.

To answer your question directly .. I can recall NO ACTIONS .

If you would read on ....

This a combination of two different times I talked to Joe on KFYI 910 AM Phoenix .
When KFYI was still at that frequency years ago .. early 2000 's ( ? )

I called in and asked him if he would arrest someone that was carrying a concealed sidearm . ( back then there were no permits given to AZ citizens . )

He said he would . I then brought up the AZ Constitution :
    Format Document
and the US Constitution and reminded him of his oath of office .

At this point he started in on his hyperbole of enforcing laws , being Americas toughest Sheriff , etc. ... I ask if we could get back to the question at hand and he in a very condescending tone asked if I was a lawyer ... interesting question to answer a question . No I said . He started talking about how I sounded like one ... well we're up against the clock sorry we have to go click ... dial tone .
No answer to the question after the break .

Fast forward a couple of years and he is sitting in for Bob Mohan on drive time talk .

He has an FBI agent in , I think the guy was just appointed the new director of the Phoenix division ... anyway I call in and get on .
I ask the agent where in the Constitution does it authorize a national police force ? I. E . the FBI .
He informs me that congress passed act " xyz " that created the FBI .
I re asked the question , where is the authority at in the Constitution ?

At this point Joe steps in and asks if I am one of those guys that believes the Sheriff is the top law enforcement officer of the county ...Yeah I do . Never acknowledging that the Sheriff is ... Then he starts talking about how good the FBI is out there fighting the good fight and how he worked real hard in the DEA fighting drugs in South America .. so on so on .. call time up ... commercial .. dial tone .

I have called into talk radio quite a bit ... I have even sat in at a couple of stations before as a counterpoint guest .. I understand the clock .. and that you are a slave to it behind the microphone .

He would not deal with the question .. redirect the subject ( cheap Jedi mind trick ) , protect his guest .

You guys can believe what you want .. yes he runs a good jail and has saved Maricopa county a ton of money and he looks good on Fox news when they interview him .
He appears to be doing a good job with the invasion from Mexico .. the pink underwear .. chain gangs ... tent city and the Sheriff's posse save money . But he rides 'em like a government mule when he gets on TV.
Everything Joe does is for and about Joe .. plain and simple .
Now I can't prove it .. but that is what I believe .

If it comes down between your Constitution / Rights and enforcing the " law " ... you're gonna lose. If it comes down to him getting in between you and a Federal agency ... a la Waco or Ruby Ridge .. he will back off and let his old work buddies at the different federal bureaucracies come right on in .

So there you go .. that is the way it happened when I interacted with him and that is the way I see it .

You may now start my crucifixion ..
    Thank you

I have to admit that my only information on this guy is what I read online and hear on TV. That said, it does seem like he's getting some of the job done.

By people's own admission he's at least tackling some of the issues facing Maricopa County. He's always gonna have an uphill battle in that state considering the illegal immigration situation in that state and all the drug cartel wars going on.

I just heard on the news that there were 2000 people killed last month just over the border as 2 cartels are warring. Now, I have to say, if it's 2000 drug cartel guys dyin' I feel a little less sad than if it's innocents. But we all know innocents pay the price far more than the bad guys.

I'll have to do more research on Sheriff Joe before I make any blanket statements about him. On the surface though, while he seems like a narcissist, at least he's a narcissist that's getting work done.

    Peace, M1

    Well Said!^

I used to be a big fan and still am in regard to the way he makes hard time for convicts actual hard time.

That said, the dude is a raging egomaniac and has gone way over the line far too many times for me to trust him at all. Anyone remember when his deputy got caught stealing from a defense attorney's files? Anyone remember his open and willful disregard for the law and legitimate authority there?

    https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...59941-deputy_steals_defense_lawyers_file.html

It is really too bad, the dude is spot on in many ways. However, no man is a law unto himself and he really appears to feel that he is. In a LEO, sworn to uphold the law, I just cannot conscience that.

    Best,

    Joe

I cannot believe you wrote this. It's the same argument the Socialists and Communists use to justify their actions.

On the other hand, it would not surprise me to see that Sheriff Joe has abused his authority; you find that frequently whenever a politician/law enforcer has entrenched himself in office. He knows where all the bodies are buried - and can create some "bodies" himself, if needed to stay in power.

I don't have a problem with him rejecting the current fashion for TV lounges and air conditioning for convicted criminals; I'm certainly in favor of his enforcing immigration laws; I deplore any unlawful behavior - but I won't be surprised if it comes out he has engaged in such.

However, it is a favored Dem tactic to allege misconduct and howl for resignations and oftentimes the charges are never proven in court. It worked for Gingrich and DeLay (let's see if he is convicted of the allegations charged to him), and it worked to drive Palin out of office; I'll bet the Dems wish they had left her there, though...

    .

This particular item isn't unusual. Most jurisdictions west of the Mississippi have the Sheriff responsible for Search & Rescue and Sheriffs frequently rely on organized SAR Teams to provide manpower and direction; leaving their usually, understaffed departments free to perform law enforcement functions. Sometimes the SAR teams are deputized; sometimes there are formal agreements; and sometimes it's just informal agreements. We discovered this while developing a Basic Emergency Rescue Technician program in the early 90s. (The Search portion of that program was taken largely from National Association for Search and Rescue - NASAR - programs).
