Most of the girls in my family have shot with me at one time or another. My wife is my #1 shooting buddy and prairie dogs are our #1 target. My granddaughter will be 12 in 2 days and has been shooting with us a couple of times. Next month, she's going to South Dakota to shoot prairie dogs for the first time. The trip is her birthday gift and she is chomping at the bit. When she asked about going, I told her she had to think about the fact that we are not going to be just shooting paper targets, we're going to kill little furry critters that some people even think are cute. She replied with a lengthy email explaining why we have to shoot the prairie dogs. We couldn't find a hunter safety course anywhere near them so she's going to take the online course as soon as she turns 12. It's not required but I think it's a good idea. The folks who run the hunting lodge we where we stay have a daughter the same age. I'm thinking both of them are in for a bit of culture shock. Country girl........meet city girl!

    I will

We'll take pictures but I think all they'll do is make you guys want to go. Here's a teaser. This is Julie checking a typical "target rich environment" in NE Colorado, near Proctor. The light spots are prairie dog burrows.
