Recently I picked up a Winchester 1897 12 ga. pump shotgun. The serial number indicates that it was manufactured about 1898-1899. My philosophy on firearms is that (no matter how old they are) as long as they are operable they should be used. Can I use just any old shotgun round or do I have to use specific types? Thoughts?

I have one I got from my Dad. I don't shoot it and it has a bright and shiny barrel. He used it in turkey shoots. It's my understanding that he did quite well with it. They have a rep for holding a tight group. He used what ever round they passed out at the shoots.
