SHTF firearms would be best chambered for 5.56 NATO/.223 or 7.62 NATO/.308,
unless you have years worth of your specific chamber size in dry storage.:twocents:

I would include 7.62X39 in that list. While not an issue chambering it is somewhat plentiful and I trust it more than 5.56 for stopping power.

Yep 7.62 x 39 is a good one. Don't over look 22 lr though. Tons of ammo out there. Easy to carry lots of ammo and it is versitile. It's great for small game and can get deer in a pinch. One of the best features is that it's fairly quiet. In a SHTF situation you may not want everyone within 3 miles to know you bagged dinner or dispatched a zombie.

NATO chambered munitions, in quantity, currently in CONUS, is staggering.

As per my previous post, in a SHTF situation, law and military assets will trump, and non-NATO chamber production will dry up as production of NATO increases.

I understand that there are many useful calibers out there, but which will be readily available.:twocents:
