What's the word on the 9 to 40 conversion for the 226? Is the 40 slide conversion kit fully reliable and is there any risk of risk of damage to the frame? Last, what is the going price for the slide conversion kit?

Contrary to claims even the 40 to 9mm conversions on Glocks is not 100% reliable. If the conversion you mention is nothing more than throwing a 9mm barrel in a SIG 40 would be no different. Would it be a cheaper alternative for something to tinker on a range? I suppose but myself I would jus pick up a dedicated 9mm platform for that.

Sounds like he's asking to go from a 9 to a 40. Not the other way around. I'd ask on sigforum.com, though I think I remember hearing that all the frames are different and the slides don't interchange in the smaller to bigger conversion. That's why most people get the P220 and then get the conversion kit for them.

I would be weary. you would definitely be in need of a new recoil spring assembly if you are hoping to put the 40 barrel in the 9 slide since the 40 slide has significantly more mass.

I believe it would. i will examine a 229 in 40 on tuesday and see if the slide will swap with my 226 in 9. frame size is the same on both but the magazine well is a little bit different.

I imagine the increase the slide mass instead of running a really heavy recoil spring so that the pistols are easier to manipulate

The 220 is a 45acp. A conversion kit is available to convert it to 22lr.
There's also a dedicated 9mm version (not a conversion). And a few rare 38 super models.

    There's no 9/40/357 conversion for the 220.

The 226 frame is supposed to be the same for 9/40/357. Changing the complete slide shouldn't create an issue.

The older 229 has two frames. One for 9mm and another for 40/357. The mag well is enlarged on the 40/357 frame.
The newer 229-1 frame is the same for 22/9/40/357.

I had a 40/9 conversion from Bar-Sto perfect. 226 Has a off brand for 239 worked fine. I would still never use as a CCW pistol/bbl
Range yes. Both of mine ran 100% You could look at Storm Lake also. I have a SL 9mm TB for my XDM 4.5 100%

The exchange kit is what you need. Works great. You must have one of the newer 226's with the rail. The older ones without the rail might not work. At least thats what sig customer service told me. All newer 226's with the rail have the same frame no matter what cal. top end they put on.
