I know with a 1911 there can be a world of difference on the Inside, but on the outside a Commander length appears to be the same in appearance. Apart from my 1911 ish Sig Sauer they seem to be mostly the same. Is there any reason you would not want to use your favorite 1911 specific holster for two or three 1911's. Not sure how they multiplied so soon but I really like the platform.

When the holster rig fits well, why not use it for others? Some designers indicate which firearm it is meant for, but I have also found that a holster for some Sigs fit my Glock 19. My 1911 holsters fit my 5in and my Commander like a glove. I have a couple that have an open end, hence multiple guns fit.(usually trigger guard-mid frame )
Kydex styles are a bit tighter, leather and better nylon work fine.
If the holster is only meant for a 3in bbl Officer 1911, a 5in Gov't Model may not be allowed and may hang up on the front sight.
So, buying a 5in 1911 would fit most if not all 1911s. If the gun has a rail... another model is needed.
    Good luck.
