Friend at work is offering to sell me a Chinese SKS with a chrome-lined bore along with a Ipod touch (32gb) for $300 (for both).

Sounds like a deal to me but I know nothing about an SKS.

Any issues I should look for when I see the gun?

Sounds like a deal to me also! Make sure the action is fairly smooth and it wouldn't hurt to look down the bore. SKS's have jumped up in price over the last few years, that's not a bad deal. My :twocents:

Thanks for the input... The more I think about it the better the deal sounds. I was going to give $125 for the ipod. Guess i better start looking at ammo :) .

seriously, you can sell the ipod for $150 easy and that would be a heck of a deal on the SKS. I would buy them all day at that price.

fwiw i paid about $250 (or maybe $275? i dont remember) last year for an all matching Norinco SKS. I had no previous experience with the platform, I just like surplus arms.

Boy am I glad I bought it! It is an absolute blast at the range. And quite accurate as well. Despite the SKS's reputation as a poor man's gun, I would rather have my SKS than my AK...unless a true SHTF situation were to occur.

I agreed to the deal pending my inspection :).......

I have not shot many rifles other than 22's and shot guns. Hope this is fun to shoot.

I have been wanting to get an AR-15 and an AK. Maybe not the AK now?

The SKS. I have one, chinese. She spits out cheap ammo like its her job and the recoil isn't that bad, it's actually pretty minimal. Thaere are alot of mods you can make for her, but dont go overboard. The lighter she is the better! If she has a bayonette, take it off, cause it causes pull on the barrel. That rifle will kill zombies and socialists like it's her bidding!

An AK would make a great mate to your SKS, and your only buying one cartridge for both. For what a decent AR cost, you could buy one hell of an AK such as an Arsenal.

I was thinking AR + AK as well, then I bought an SKS off an INGO memeber.
Now, new plan is keep cartridges similar and a quality AK in the future.

So this is a good comment, IMHO.

An SKS is a very practical and versatile CF utility carbine. Simple to operate and maintain, rugged, reliable, durable and relatively inexpensive to feed.

With a bit of practice, its 10 rd. box mag can be recharged with the still-plentiful "stripper" clips as quickly as most box magazines can be removed and replaced. Accuracy is usually at least on par with that of most all of its contemporary semiauto service longarms and many are capable of delivering approx. 3 MOA three-to-five-shot groups at 100 M. with good ammo. Some carbines and shooters can do somewhat better.

Since it seems to be the Ipad you want primarily, a nice SKS makes for some pretty tasty gravy, IMHO.
