The AR (Assault Rifle) has always been on the Anti’s hate list. Seems like calls for bans are never ending. But somehow Rifles like the Mini seem to escape criticism and stays largely off the radar. There are documented cases where a Mini was used and there was a fundamental shift in training afterwards. Yet it seems the Anti’s still demonize the AR. Differences aside the two rifles are functionally equivalent in that they can both be chambered in a 223 or 556 so how did cosmetic features ever come to be a deciding factor ?

When they don't have facts on their side, all they have left is emotion.
And emotion is swayed by appearances

AR stands for Armalite Rifle. Not that other thing.

Ar-15 clones are everywhere. It's an easy target and everyone know what you mean (and how scary they are!).
Couple that with a lot of high profile cases where the shooter was armed with an Ar-15 clone and you've got your poster child.

Case in point: I'm not even sure what you mean by "mini" Are you referring to the Ruger Mini 14? And what exactly are you trying to say with "fundamental shift in training afterwards"?

It follows along the lines (lies) of the 922(r) stupidity, where a Norinco 56S is an evil baby killing machine, but remove the pistol grip and stock, the bayo lug, muzzle threads and install a Bush-hole stock and change the name to MAK-90 it is now an angelic device incapable of hurting anything.

Yes like the Ruger or any other rifle in .223/5.56x45 it is pure looks and perception versus the reality that the person holding the rifle is either evil or not.

It's driven by volume and pure numbers of rifles owned. Americans like the AR platform and there are tens of millions of them out in civilian hands. That drives the gun grabbers nuts. It also makes a big freaking target for them.

If the Mini 14 was the nation's top selling rifle they'd go after that. And they'll come for it eventually if they're successful with ARs, it's just lower on the priority list right now.

It all started way before ARs became as popular as they are now, back when the Mini-14 was arguably as, if not more, popular. The event I remember that seemed to get the so-called "assault rifle" crusade going was the Stockton, CA school shooting in 1989 where the perp used a rifle that bore a resemblance to the "AK."

Well, everyone that watched "The A-Team" knows that nobody can hit anything with a Mini-14, so they're safer.
That's why I wont buy one.

But seriously I coonfingered one once. They arent comfy for a lefty to use. Our support hand palm hits that shroud bump-out and its not comfy to hold.

This. It's a war of attrition and they will go after certain things first.

When they came after the AR, I didn't care because I had a Mini... sound familiar?
