Isn't the Vickers a Springfield with Wilson Parts added?

Seems like a Garrison with some Wilson Parts, front strap checkering and a coating of choice would do it, or if Springfield has one with front strap checkering already start with it.

You will probably end up with more in it than just buying the Vickers, but you could spread the cost out if needed.

Ideally I would really like to find a Vickers. But the ones I have found are North of $1800. In my opinion it’s not worth that much coin.

Parts, fitting, sights, coating and machining add up very quick.
I know but just seems like that is bumping into Dan Wesson ball park. I know this might kind of sound odd coming from budget minded guy, but at $1800 really what is $1200 more that would most likely cover a basic Wilson Combat. I never would have thought I would have said that, but with prices for everything being what they are perhaps $3k for a Wilson really is not out of line?

$1800 gets you a Stainless Valor which IMHO is better than the Springer, what specific STI gun is it?

Edit: look really hard at Nighthawk , not saying Wilson is over rated but my father has had to send 1 1911 back and an EDC X9 back for mistakes that should not have came from the factory.

It’s. 4.0 Lawman 45 acp looks like the slide would need to be refinished at minimum. Looks like finding sights for it might be a challeng.e, also I am not real fond of the bill board.

I definitely agree I would go Dan Wesson, Baer, or similar before the Vickers, but if that's what you really want get it.

I personally wouldn't spend that kind of money on a Wilson.

not really sermon the Vickers, it just had the features I really wanted. Things like g10 grips I know no biggie to change. The big ticket items like finish, sights, front strap checkering were things I really wanted.

Thoughts on a STI 1911? There may be one avail used. Shows some holster wear, idiot scratch. Has front strap checkering.
I have used some of their slides/frames on my customs in the past. Not much direct experience with their full built offerings save for what I have heard.

$1,800 or thereabouts also gets a DW specialist Commander or government model in 45, 9, or 10mm. The next $1,800 I spend on a 1911 will probably go in this direction. I like the black finished one better than the stainless, myself.

ps. If you can't tell, I'm quickly becoming a d w fanboy!

If a Vickers Springfield is hard to get possibly consider the new Springfield Operator. I was wanting a Vickers as well but since they seem to be mythical I just picked on up the Operator and it’s quite the shooter.
From what I can see I believe the only difference is the Operatior has a 3 hole trigger, has a rail and no front serrations and a non orange/red insert on the front sight and an ambulance safety over the Vickers which for me wasn’t a make or break.

Here’s an 8 round mag at 7 yards on someone’s discarded 22 target

Much better parts out there past the Wilson stuff.

So more info on the STI found out it’s they are asking $650 looks like rarely used seems to be well fit, I was given ok to field strip it and it appears to have a combination of letters and numbers engraved in slide, barrel, and frame.

looks like it has a a Big dot? With a non dot rear sight.

Now the bad Part it has literally a billboard on the slide. One side reads Lawman 4.0 and the opposite side has STI on it with an outline of Texas. Here is the possible deal breaker it’s 9mm.

Seems like a decent price from what I gather it’s all steel, no mim that I can see.

IF I decide to act on it I am going to need to do something tomorrow otherwise it’s headed for the pawn shop. It’s part of estate liquidation.

    Thoughts?

    thank you

Have you considered an Emissary? They seem to be available at about $1295 and seem it might hit most of your check marks.

I know this is going to sound awful, but i am more of a traditional styling 1911 guy. The Vickers was pushing as far as front strap treatment and slide serrations.

I may be in the minority but I just do not care for the looks of it. But I think that is why the 1911 is special you can usually find one that you like.

    thanks

I happen to agree on the looks, just thought it might fit the bill. But thats the beauty of this sport, all kinds of different tools to choose from and lots of avenue to make them yours.

I personally chose a Springer Range Officer in 45 and am very pleased with my pistol. But I am a cheap SOB:cool:
