Preview of the American southwest once they finish draining the Ogallala Aquifer and if the state of California doesn't start investing in desalination or some other way to get fresh water.

So, what's going on with the socialist utopia in Venezuela you ask yourself?

Weeellll, not only have the eeeevil capitalists manage to short Venezuela on milk, sugar and toilet paper, now the drinking water supply is low.

PSUV has run the country so far into the ground that they cannot have what falls from the sky.

Huh. No toilet paper. No water to flush? Well, people did poop before toilets. Shouldn't be that big an inconvenience given the other benefits of utopia.

I guess you could formulate some sort of "de Tocqueville-esque-sounding" political aphorism out of this, like:

"People who wipe poop with their fingers, and cover it up with their feet, find the Socialist message easy to eat."

It would be funny, if it didn't remind you so much of where America is headed under Obama. When the economy was running good, you couldn't sell Socialism to Americans, if it came with a free BJ and a bag of chips. But when people are knocked down on the ground, they vote for stupid things. Would Americans really vote for someone who promised to make their electricity rates "skyrocket?" Sure - even people on INGO voted for him. (Would Americans be smart enough to accurately assign the blame for the rolling blackouts, if and when they start to happen?)

Viewed that way, I guess the idiocy of much of the Venezuelan population doesn't look so surprising. At least our (low-flush) toilets still work - for now.

I find this so hard to believe.
When I was down there, it rained every stinking day of the week I was there.
Aside from Hawaii, it was one of the wettest places I have ever been to.
One of the scariest places in the world.
They just come up to cars and grab you and haul you out in the jungle.
You can't pay the ransom, you die and they never find you.
I am so glad I don't ever have to go back there again.
