Eton also has a similar model (called the Scorpion I believe) that's about 1/3 that price. It doesn't have the altimeter, etc but it does have the radios, light, hand crank, etc.

For $150 you can outfit others for the same cost. Just a thought...

So does anybody own one of the eton models? Mixed reviews on Amazon. I have a crank light, but this could be a little better maybe if it actually does stuff.

No, I dont own one. I have looked at reviews and they are mixed but I may buy the one with the hand crank since it says it would take 18hrs of sunlight to charge the thing. The only place I know that gets 18hrs of sunlight is Alaska.

I will stick with my real compass, my G-shock tough solar watch the thermometer on my zip pull, and my county comm SW radio. I can run that off solar rechargeable batterys. Altimeter? I live in N IND so unless I want to know how high an overpass is I dont need it.

All this stuff I have already, its been proven tough.

I agree I would not buy this for my BOB but it is a cool toy.
