South Bend has always been a drug route between Chicago and Detroit. Much of the gang related violence is caused by temporary residents from people originally from one or the other location, or someplace very near them.

I lived the first 21 years of my life spitting distance from South Bend. I have no doubt that SB has big city connections, but it's had home grown criminals since I can remember.

Thats for sure! I know several cops up here who would back you up on that. There's also a big Latino gang problem up here, though mainly in Elkhart County.
