I've got one in 308 and am happy with it. The trigger on mine isn't too bad, and I like how light the rifle is overall. It is fairly accurate although I haven't worked with it too much yet. At that price I'd say "grab it!"

The Stevens 200 rifle is good to go (it's basically a Savage Model 10 action with no Accu-Trigger and a cheap stock), but the scope may or may not be what you're looking for (brand and style can and has varied). I'd buy the basic gun and add your own glass.

I do not think you can buy a bolt and action for that kind of money, let alone a .308 rifle that is ready to shoot. You can always upgrade your barrel, stock and trigger if you want at a later date.

I had one in 22-250 and I liked it. I paid $300 for mine but it had a bushnell 3-9x40 on it. Kinda wish i would have kept it. There are quite a few people who build them if you google it.

I ordered a Stevens 200 in .223 for a friend and fellow INGOer earlier this year. We took it out the 300 yard range and with a bit of DIY stock work, a modest Vortex Crossfire scope, a Rifle Basix trigger and his handloads, he shot several sub-MOA 5-shot groups. I was impressed, to say the least.

The Stevens 200 is the donor action for my Hoosier. I added an aftermarket trigger and did a few mods to the stock. While not a thing of beauty, they shoot great.

You also might want to cruise through the forum on SavageShooters.com. There is a lot of good information there specifically for Savages and the vendors do some good group buys for barrels and other items. It's free to join the forum.

$275 is a good price for the rifle, let alone as a combo.

Is the one you're looking at the standard 22" sporter barrel, or the 26" varmint barrel?

I have one in 223 and I love it. I'll eventually upgrade trigger and stock, but it is a shooter right out of the box. I've only messed with the trigger a little and added a cheap scope since mine didn't come with one and have been able to get it to shoot just under moa with the cheapest fmj I could find. Not to bad if you ask me. I'd like to find another one around me in 223 for that price.
