Ok you got me thinking again!!

I hate it when that happens.

I have been collecting straight razors for years and have always wanted to start using them but it always seemed like TOO MUCH WORK!!!

    Wish me luck!!!

If you don't hear from me Monday you will know the shaving went horribly wrong.......Anybody on here O+ and close to Noblesville?

I've wanted to join this club for a while. Bloomington has a cool cigar shop downtown that sells "man stuff", complete with a 6' cigar Indian and Ferarri. I've bought the shave soap and brushes for years, but it's hard to give up that Mach III Turbo.

well thanks for the advice, I've got one on the way from ebay that cost me $20 shipped. its an antique tillotson made in Sheffield, England. It appears to be either a 3/4 or full hollow grind, but I'll know more when it gets here. It might be in need of a good sharpening, but hey, thats what Tyler is for (at least until I can get a water stone and strop).

As for a strop: I've found plans online for making one, what type of leather should I use?

You must have a clanging issue when you walk as I have only had one person ever use a straight razor on me and it will never happen again.

its more of a clunk than a clang.

straight razor is the way to go! My all time favorite barbar R.I.P used a straight razor to trim up neckline and side burns and for 6$ he would give you a shave! He'd dip the blade and mix up the shaving cream hit you with a hot towel and presto baby faced you'd walk away! Also he gave me a good tip on saving money on razor blades and it works! Leave your gillet mach 3 blades soaking in 3in1 oil it prevents the blades from pitting. Low and behold I have been using the same blade for almost 6 months now! Just rince it and go to town. I have been on the same 4 pack of blades since december and gotta knock off the scruff again tonight:D

Might have to try that trick...

Always wanted to learn to use a straight razor, but between the very real threat of bodily harm, and the decently high (to me) prices of a GOOD razor, haven't gotten there yet.
One of my great-grandfathers was a barber and my dad has some of his old straight razors, maybe I can talk him out of one someday...

go to ebay. the cost for the 2 razors I have is less than a year's supply of Mach3 blades.
