I had the night to myself tonight so i decided to stretch my Marlin 795's legs some. I normally shoot it between 85-100 yards but i wanted to see what i could do at a longer distance. So i went out to the back fields and set it at 170 yards to see how it did. Im running a cheap OLD Tasco 3-9x 40 scope and a bipod and a DIP's trigger. I was also useing only Federal Chapmion ammo ....the cheap bulk crap. With just about 10" of holding high over what i have the scope set at now (for 100 yards) i was ringing steel 10 out of 10 times and having a ball doing it. It was a good night and i just wanted to share the pictures (last one is a video) with you guys.

The Marlin 795 is a damn fine .22LR. The price is just icing on the cake. I love taking mine out and plinking through a whole box of Wally World Federal Bulk...

I have to agree that the Marlin 795 is a fine .22LR. Inexpensive rifle plus inexpensive ammo equals hours of fun. Quite easy to go through a whole box of ammo in one range session.

I have mine zero'd at 25 yards. For fun a month or so ago, I stretched it out to around 220. My hold over was around 65". Once I figured out where I was hitting, I put every round from a magazine into a man sized silhouette from prone. I took money from my brother and 2 cousins. The same brother gave me money for ringing an 8" steel plate at 100 last summer.

I've got less than $140 in the whole setup.

I have 3 Marlin rimfires. The models 60 and 25, I have owned since the 1980s. But two years ago, I purchased a 795, and it is, above and beyond, the most accurate .22LR I own. Though the gun is light weight, it is well balanced, with a short heavy barrel and a full-sized stock that feels really good. I'm still just using the iron sights, but it is deadly to varmints out to 50 yds or so. And at 100 yds., sure it shoots low, but it does shoot nice groups at 100. Love my 795.
