I have a SBR at the gunsmith right now. As soon as it comes back i plan on running my 5.56 suppressor underneath the handguard about an 1 inch. The diameter of the suppressor is 1.5 and the I.D. of the handguard is 1.56.

If i run my AR hard with a mag dump will this heat up the handguard pretty bad? Does anyone have any personal experience with this sort of thing?

I've shot a couple guns like this... It won't really heat up the rail too bad, but with all of the heat coming off the can that close to the rail you can certainly feel it when you get your hand out and around it. You won't have anything to worry about though!

You will get a better response in the NFA sub forum.
But from my experience, the heat isn't unbearable, but you definitely notice it. I usually wear some grippy mechanix gloves when shooting though.
