What's the incentive? Drop off a gun, feel warm and fuzzy?

There are likely two constituencies that will use the drop-offs: criminals wanting to dispose of a gun used in a crime anonymously and people who find/inherit guns that don't want them.

I didn't see anything about anonymity/immunity being provided, so the former might be a road to self-incrimination. There are better/more profitable ways to deal with unwanted firearms, so the latter doesn't make much sense either. Basically, a feel good solution that continues the demonization of guns.

Some business that makes those boxes, with a good law/lobby firm behind it, just got a better than 5-1 ROI. It's how the system works, corrupt scams dressed up as social engineering, making a few rich at the expense of many.

    Always follow the money.

Even if the box is hardened to the point that it WERE all but impossible to defeat, how long would it be before thugs thought to set up an ambush at the drop-off box?
If you get it before it goes into the box...

    Talk about a knee-jerk reaction.

    This gives me an idea...

How about I build one of these boxes and put it in my front yard? See what I can get. I mean, if you're just going to throw it away, it may as well go to a good home!

Isn't that a transfer? Doesn't the city need to go through a background check with the 'dropper', or the transaction makes them a party to an illegal act?

What was the point of that new mandate WA just passed? Is there a waiver allowing municipalities to aid and abet illegal acts?

I was thinking the same thing. Put a "gun box" right next to the mail box. ;)
