I didn't think those generated enough heat to burn things like dry grass? Though being a jackwagon and adding gasoline to the mix for a fireball would do it.
Sounds like someone is in real trouble! However, makes you wonder why the fire wasn't put out quickly if it was reported right after it started. I would think it could have been controlled and eliminated if the right resources were used at the start...

I've recorded some slow motion footage of tannerite explosions and they do generate some flame but I agree not enough to start a fire. Especially if there is a strong breeze. The amount of heat just isn't there. But add some diesel fuel or gasoline for a larger fireball and you are asking for trouble.
