Well I finally got to punch some paper today after purchasing my new Taurus 809 (9mm) from PSS and can now proudly say that I'm moving my .40 cal PT-940 to the nightstand and will use the 809 as my new carry gun.

Started off by doing a quick slide removal, clean and lube. Very simple to take down with a slight 3/16th inch slide back and tang depress and off comes the slide. Insides was clean and looking good, ran a patch and brush through the bbl to make sure all was fine inside, no residue or particles in the bbl so I put a little of my fav Montana Gun Grease on the rails and put her back together.

It comes with 3 separate backstraps so you may configure the grip to different hand sizes, which considering I have a smaller hand is great, so I made sure I had the thinnest of the 3 on there and the fit was great in my hand.

Put 120 rounds total (100 WWB 115gr FMJ & 20 CorBon 115gr JHP) through it flawlessly with not one failure to feed, fire or eject.

First 2 mags I put through it I didn't care where on the target I hit, I just wanted to make sure function was right and proceeded to empty the first mag as fast as possible and second mag with quick double taps.

After that It was more of a practice mode for me since I have had very little range time in the last year, I was very pleased with the operation and function of my new sidearm.
    :rockwoot:

Trigger pull was clean and crisp on both SA and DA, and really loved how it felt, DA was a nice pull back, not to long and was not overly heavy, SA was sweet and short, but not to short.

Originally when Taurus was introducing literature about the 809 it was mention that the mags was 18 rounds, but since production started everything has stated 17. I realized two times that I put 18 in with no problems so don't know if this was design flaw or intentional.:dunno:

Pic below, not the greatest groupings, but all inside the black from 35 feet. I know, why 35 feet, I'm still wondering that also. (sorry about the pic quality, had to use the old camera, the Canon Xti 400 was in the closet and wife was asleep)

Nice report. That's a great looking gun!

Very nice. Enjoy your new carry gun!

    Thanks guys!

I was a little apprehensive on buying this because it being a polymer frame even though I've been a long time Taurus owner, guess just growing up with good ole' metal in my hands always felt right, even though I did have my dads Glock 23 for a while after he passed a way years ago. Yesterday I realized, it was just the dislike of it's T.A.S.

Should have mentioned this above in the report, controllability was really nice, not snappy and was returning to point of aim quickly even when I was just hammering it on the rapid fire. I can honestly say in all my years of firing a gun, that the only time I've fired anything faster was my AR and I was fully expecting it to FTFeed, FTFire, FTE or get a stovepipe.

I basically knew right then it was winner, winner chicken dinner for this purchase!

I'm now going to have to get more range time since this is so nice to shoot, and now I need to maybe start thinking about buying a reloading press, or working out putting money down with someone else to share one to save $$$'s.

Nice gun, how does the hammer feel, is it made of polymer? I thought about the 809 but ended up going with an oss because of the extra inch of barrel.

Nice Taurus collection. I only have two, an OSS 9mm, and 24/7 DS compact 9mm, of course that's the only two hand guns I own; one for carry and one for the range.

If you didn't notice, I believe in being diverse!:yesway:
Always looking to add. Next one looks to be the PT1911 :draw:

When I buy another had gun, the PT1911 will be the one. My friend has one, along with a Kimber and prefers to shoot the Taurus. The Kimber is just a gun safe queen.

Will work it self out, noticed it was little more easier to depress and drop the mag. Just got to work out some.

Metal hammer, everything feels great about it. Went with the 809 because I want a hammer. Much easier to pull the trigger a second time than rack the slide.

Sweet, got the PT-1911, PT-940 and the 809, planning on a 845 when I get the money for it. I did have a SS PT-92 that I traded for the 1911.

Heck I'm even thinking about one of the Thunderbolt pump carbines in 357mag/.38 or 45lc.

    Love my Taurus's

Nice looking pistol. I've been looking more about buying more taurus pistols. I do want another Judge again, and I'm thinking about giving a couple of their semi's a try as well. Currently just have my model 608, and more recently my 709.
