You need to get it threaded for your hybrid too QUE! Then I'll be over here drooling... I'm really wanting to suppress a side loading lever gun!
I load my 45/70 light, the rifle (a Marlin 1881) was made in 1886 after all, no need to abuse it harshly, I have a 450 Alaskan if I want to be punished. I load a Laser Cast 350br FP with 14 grains of Trail Boss for a velocity of about 1150fps. Shoots very well, low recoil, and very accurate.
From what I'm seeing from googling the ftx's seem to be a favorite of many. What powder are you using?
What's everyone loading for 45-70? I just picked up a Marlin today. I'd love some pointers or a good starting place. Pet loads etc.
H4198 has been a great powder. 45 grains. Hornady recommends a list of good powders. I have their reloading manual if you need some numbers. Pm me.
Get started bullet casting, with 45-70 it pays off in record time.
