im sure ill have some arguments on this one. i love my automatics i have a springfield commander size 1911 love it, i carry a glock 32 in .357 sig just cause i dont wanna wear and tear my 1911, but for one gun situation carried by a person with limited shooting experience i say a snubbie revolver in .357 magnum. you wont have any jamming issues, more then enough stopping power, if a round doesnt go off you have a second chance, easy function, not horrible to conceal, and you can always practice with cheaper 38 special rounds. definately a downfall on capacity but a couple speed loaders will help that. just my opinion.

The S&W 15-3 with a 21" barrel. After all it took down the Bat Wing in just one shot :D:

But seriously, any gun you've had and used for a while. I don't trust any new or never used by somebody I know well gun to work until I've shot it for a while.

My vote is for a good Colt or S&W .357

    Reasons:
Price - usually fairly reasonable for the quality of the handgun
Capacity - Reasonable 6 or 7 shots, if you need more than 3 you need practice shooting, or not getting in those situations
Concealability - larger frames may be the only drawback for concealment
Comfort to shoot - most fit the hand and comfortable to shoot
Caliber - can be shot in .38, .38+P, or .357
Visual Aesthetics - good looking handguns
    Accuracy - reasonably accurate
Reliability - one of the most reliable handguns, if it doesn't go bang, pull the trigger again.

    1911
Price- You can get a good used one for $600
Capacity - 8 rds and then you have 10 rd back ups
Concealability - fairly easy to conceal with the slim profile
Comfort to shoot - well if you have shot a 1911 then you know but yes, very comfortable to shoot.
Caliber - .45 slow bullet big hole. If SHTF alternate FMJ with HP.
    Visual Aesthetics - SEXY!
Accuracy - Is relative to the shooter but there somewhat accurate. ;)
    Reliability - 100 years....yep reliable.

    This....

    BlackwaterTacticalP226001.jpg

    Sig Sauer P226 Blackwater Tactical

She comes with four (4) twenty round magazines
9mm --- never have problems finding ammo
SRT --- (short reset trigger) LOVE IT!
    Night Sights ... Fiber Optic
Extremely Accurate!!!!! I love shooting it... :ar15:

Unfortunately, the price is climbing on this model due to they no longer make the "Blackwater" model. I believe they have one similar now called the P226 Tactical. I bought this one NIB for $1000. A close second would be my P229 SCT in 40/357.

    Just my :twocents:

lol, I didn't start this thread because I was actually looking for a new handgun. I have more handguns than I can count on two hands, and I carry many of them on a regular basis.

However, all the talk of the G19 in this thread got me looking into Glocks (I've never owned a Glock)...

And today, I brought this home:
    g19_1.jpg

Glock 19 w/Trijicon night sights - it also came with 3 magazines.

I detailed stripped it, cleaned it inside and out, did the .25 cent trigger job on it, and I plan to take it to the range for the first time tomorrow.

Model 1911 ..I love them. But..But... guess what ? Glock 19= 16 fast, state of the art hollow point bullets and they work, out of the factory box. . 1911= 7-8 BIG, SLOW FAT 45 cal. bullets, sometimes requires a pistol smith tuning. ...Hmmmmm?
    Glock price new...$500.00 1911 price...new..$500.00 RIA Thru $3,000+++!
