I'm not much on conspiracy theories but everything I have seen and heard in the last couple of weeks makes me wonder where all the 22LR is going.

Have been to 2 Dicks stores one said the last 22 they saw was 2 weeks ago and 3 weeks at the other and only a few boxes at that.

Was at a surplus store/gun shop , they said they had not recieved any despite orders for 3 months.

Have a friend who is out of work and he has become a semi pro ammo flipper and he finds 9 and 45 quite regularly at Walmart but rarely if ever 22.

My question is if all of these stores can't get any, where is it all going.

It dosen't seem to be getting to the consumer, like its being held somewhere at the wholesale level.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

I've bought over 17K rounds of .22LR at only Wal-Mart stores in the last two months. The Wal-Marts around here seem to get it in at least one day a week. This morning my local store had a 10-box case of the Winchester 555's, but I'm done with .22LR for the time being, so I didn't even bother. I heard that it sold within minutes, with the first three guys in line getting their 3-box limit and the fourth guy buying the last box. It's coming in regularly - you just have to be there as soon as they bring it out.

But he isn't able to find it is my point, and he makes a point of being there when it comes out.

Maybe your area is just "dry". My local Wal-Mart alone has had two cases of Winchester M-22's, two cases of Winchester 555's, one case of Remington 525's, and one case of Remington 225's in the last two weeks alone, not counting all the other stores within 50 miles of me that have been getting it in weekly as well.

I have not seen bulk packs of .22 since November. Granted, I can't go the stores every day in hopes of being there when it hits the shelves, but it definitely is not plentiful.

Fortunately I am employed, but it has made it impossible to find ammo. I have cancelled my plans for my wife and I to take an Appleseed and I have put away my pistols for this year.

Hopefully over the winter I can reload enough ammo to try again next year. And find some .22 by Spring of 2014.

Providing components loosen up....and I get my extra pistol mags...:)

I guarantee that more ammo is being produced daily than ever before. It is just being bought up as soon as it hits the shelves. Heck, CCI alone is producing 4 millions rounds of .22LR every single day. I've seen probably over 100K of .22LR hit the shelves in Indiana Wal-Marts this past week alone.

After awhile I get tired of seein .22 for over $40.
My poor old .22 hasn't been shot since October and she keeps begging for some lead down her pipe.

Yes sir, it is the profiteers that create and then control the ammo shortage. We gun enthusiasts are our own worst enemies. All for the new God of a new generation - profit & greed.

Guys, I don't like ammo flippers either, but they are not the cause of this "shortage". If the flippers weren't buying ammo, someone else still would be. I'm buying up tons of ammo, but I'm not flipping any of it. All of my buddies are doing the same thing. The only thing fueling this is that the vast majority of the population is uncertain about what lies ahead and is stockpiling what they can.

I just checked my numbers, and Hoosier Wal-Marts have received 175,650+ rounds of .22LR since last Wednesday -- and that is assuming that each only got one case of the following ammo listed:

    Wednesday, June 12

    Angola 1709
    Evansville 1341
    Fort Wayne 1419
    Mishawaka 2678
    Princeton 1783
    South Bend 2680

    Saturday, June 15

Remington .22 Rimfire Hollow Point, 225ct:

    Hammond - 4631
    Bedford 1026
    Carmel 1601
    Decatur 1647
    Martinsville 1356
    Noblesville 923
    Plymouth 1978
    Richmond 1745
    Schererville 1576

    Winchester 22LR M-22, 1000ct:

    Schererville 1576

Winchester 22LR Hollow Point Rounds, 333ct:

    Brownsburg 2788
    Indianapolis 2787
    Washington 1162

The 225-round and 555-round boxes come 10 to a case, and the 1000-round boxes come 2 to a case. I didn't even bother including the 333-round packs in my 175K count, as I don't know how many boxes come in a case. Those three stores with them would be another 999 rounds times the number of boxes in a case -- possibly another 10K rounds added to the count. Again, the 175K+ estimate is assuming that all the ammo at each store above was only one case, while you can bet that some got more than one case each day.

So, just looking ONLY at Indiana Wal-Mart stores, they got somewhere around 200K rounds of .22LR in stock in just four days time. And this was a low week from what I've seen. I'm not even including other .22LR such as the Remington 525-round packs and CCI that may have shown up, nor does the count include any other store besides Wal-Marts. I'd hate to think of how high the total would be if you included every other store and gunshop that sold .22LR in the state of Indiana.

The numbers after each store are the store numbers and not round counts.

So far this afternoon, Indianapolis 1580 and Warsaw 1304 Wal-Marts have received cases of the Winchester 555's. I don't know if these will go on the shelves tonight or tomorrow morning.

Does anyone know when CCI minimags changed from yellow/orange translucent boxes to clear?

I'm just trying to put a roundabout date on my stuff.

I must have missed something. How do you know what the stores are getting?

I checked Lafayette Wal-Mart again today. Still no .22.

There is a work around for the walmart website that allows people to see when ammo is in stock, and others just use the walmart smartphone app.

You could run a script to search everything for you to save time, which I assume is what they're doing.

It's not really a secret anymore. A lot of people are doing it.

I was told a few weeks ago by a Dick's employee that they had gotten 40,000 rounds of .22Lr on a Wed.
Put it on the shelves and it was all gone in 3 hours! 40,000 rounds in 3 hours!

No wonder no-one can find it.

Walmart in Camby had a good supply of 40s and 45. I bought some tula 223 there the other day, for $5 a box. It's starting to come back slowly but surely.
