No, it becomes a lock model with the lock removed. Removing the lock doesn't remove the hole, and while there are little button things that you can put it in, it will never look as clean and as aesthetically pleasing as a pre-lock S&W.
I think you misunderstand, bud. I said "one without" not "pre-lock". I forgot how I have to word posts on INGO like Im writing a periodical or something. Its impossible to turn a "locked" gun into a "pre-lock" but it will function as such, which was the point. Though something tells me you understood what I was saying already.

Just so you can see the outside of a gun that's been modified, here is my S&W Model 60, after the mod.

    And the close up.

Oh, Geronimojoe did the job. I'd rather throw money at him to do it, then to do it myself, mess it up, and have to throw more money at him.

... Problems with this lock are various, from the principal of the matter to reports of the mechanism engaging itself under heavy recoil. ...

There's even a well substantiated report of the lock engaging after being accidently knocked off the counter onto a hardwood floor. In this case the lock didn't break (as it has in other cases), but rather simply locked the gun with the flag stuck crossways in the slot jamming everything up.

It's a consumer thing, you buy it, they won't change it.

Who is S&W's actual competition in the revolver market?
Of course, we know there are others, but...

On a side note, does anyone actually have first hand knowledge of the lock engaging itself? Other than the scandium .44mag, as reported by Micheal Bane?

    I have first hand knowledge.
It happened to a guy next to me at Winamac.
