We could put the National Guard in every school. Same as Israel does. We have lots of Guard members who could use the work. At least there would be someone with a gun on site. Better to get teachers to arm themselves but too many dislinke guns.

CodePink.org is an extremist feminist organization that is against guns, war and most anything male (like freedom). They tend to do ambush tactics, avoiding any type of contact. Thus it is hard to engage them. At best they want to shout down everyone else. It would be nice to confront them. If we could just figure out who they are.

Thank you sir for your service. And I must admit I agree with you. You dont need to be conservative to belive in or fight for our rights.

But you must admit that the far left, Hardcore liberals, are the ones yelling at the tops of thier lungs about this.

How would you trim to fit the NRA's plan into you local school district?

I do admit that most of the anti-gun fodder is coming from the left. It's also pretty alarming how much is coming from people who clearly just know nothing about guns except for what they hear on the news. The hive-mindedness of this gun ban movement is scary.

As far as what I would do, I think the volunteer retired LEO/veteran idea would be pretty effective. The first step would be allowing school security specialists to carry. If I heard correctly on the radio the other day, Indiana is the only state that requires school corporations to have a security specialist. Again, I don't even know if this was the correct terminology for the position but you get the idea. I read in the paper today that it is already legal for those persons to carry at schools.

However, at this time I don't have a solution for coming up with a budget that would allow for the hiring of security personell in schools. I do support arming teachers. I think it should be completely volunteer, require bi-annual training, and those volunteers should supply their own firearms.

I'd like to know exactly how an over budget school and police system is going to afford putting a police officer in every school?
How about abandoning the idiotic "War on Drugs" or the "War on Poverty"? Both have been a huge waste of money that could be spent better elsewhere, or not at all.

They plan was for an armed guard paid for by the NRA. He said they could be former LEOs, ex-military, or trained volunteers. He did mention cops in the schools but offered a better plan also.

I dunno about trained volunteers. There are a bunch of weirdos out there. Teachers should be allowed to carry and they should receive training as part of their continuing education.

You must have missed the 50 or so threads about compromise by the supposed conservative gun lovers on here that would be more than willing to give up some rights in order to have some.

Read the transcript and thought they could have done a lot better. Yeah, good on them for not caving just yet. WTF is wrong with those morons blaming video games? Are they really that stupid? You'd think they would actually do some research on the topic. The blame needs to be placed on the actual cause of the shootings. It might not be as feel good as banning something but a push for better mental health awareness and treatment is needed. Parents need to be more involved.

Love them, Hate them, the NRA is the only entity that is pro gun that is even getting any real media coverage. I thought the speech was well done and good format not taking questions at this time. Whatever the NRA says or does will never sway the lunatics that are anti gun. Our only chance in hell is to exercise what influence we have as voters on the politicians that will enact the forthcoming (and its coming) gun restrictions.

Write letters, make phone calls even make your voice heard on Facebook. Its obvious that our only chance of coming out of this will the least amount of damage to our rights is to yell louder and be seen & heard as group. Be silent and watch your gun rights evaporate, then best you be silent when they are gone, no crying after the fact.

Stand up and do something or get the hell out of the way.

Too bad the haters would rather spew their venom, due to some axe they feel they must grind, than join together to try to prevent our loss of gun rights. Good post Top Dogg.

    Agreed.

I agree that teachers should be allowed to carry in school. I also belive that training is very important. Atleast once per quater teachers should attened training courses. But that being said there are plenty of weirdo teachers out there too. Just last year two teachers at the local high school were caught having relations with an under age student. So its a double edged sword.

Also yes I did miss those threads. Ill admit I paid little attention, until now, to the polictical sub forums. That is my fault for being to comfortable with the way things had been going. Also the few that I did read the points I wouldve made had already been made.

Its sad there are so many who would rather cave and roll over than stand and fight for our rights.

Just received a email from the NRA asking for feedback for Wayne's presentation today.

    Cowardly. Took zero spine.

More of the same insanity that brought us here today.

Restore the teachers RIGHT to self defense. With or without an armed guard.

It took no courage to call for more cops / guards. It took no courage to blame video games.

30 minutes of "lets keep doing the same thing expecting different results".

    30 minutes of insanity.

Only once a quarter? Hell, anymore they're just expected to teach for state testing. Might as well hand the kids some books and let the teachers take breaks throughout the day to utilize the on campus range/shoot house/etc. and have a teacher's aide sit in the classroom babysitting.

True, Maybe we should just have classes on the range. Do a few math problems then do a run and gun course. Read a few chapters of a novel then practice off hand shooting. History class followed by reload/malfuction drills. Government/Econ followed by a structure clearing shoot/no shoot course.

:dunno: Wouldve been a hell of a lot better than my highscool days.

That might actually get kids to pay attention and probably build some self esteem by them getting some attention from positive role models that many are lacking at home.

I totally agree, and I wasnt joking. I honestly think that if there was one pilot school for this style of teaching it would become one of the best preforming schools in the country. No to mention the safest. I mean who would want to attack a school where you know all the teachers, along with the students are all armed and trained proficiently in threat indentification and clearing a structure.

As far as a contribution to the thread, I agree 100% with having officers at schools, I've said this for a while. I would even go as far as saying that they should select certain school officials that have an interest and/or prior training in firearms and arm them also. I'm just surprised that an organization such as the NRA would want to work with law enforcement, especially in Indiana after SB1.

give it a rest already, we get it you don't like the NRA, christ!

    I was disappointed.

Blaming video games is the same as blaming guns.

Asking for more government can only diminish our freedom, not enhance it.

I understand the NRA is in a tough spot. If they came out and said they were going to work to have gun free zones eliminated, no one except a small minority of the population is going to listen.

They made a decision to work within the framework that exists. I don't necessarily agree, but I understand why they did it. Now at least, they'll feel like they have a voice at the table. Being perceived as intransigent will only get them shut out.

Their video game accusations, while being hypocritical in my opinion, were probably calculated to change the focus to Hollywood and the media. In a way, this was an offensive move on their part.

As it is, I personally don't agree with the narrative they put forth. However, I don't think they sold us out either. I don't expect them to support anything that will diminish our 2A rights, even if they aren't calling for them to be expanded.
