    Sylvain you just tell them which party you would like to vote for. But, you don't "join" a party.

    We have primaries over here but they votes are made internally inside each party.
    Once they voted who's gonna be their candidate then the general public can vote for them.

    Ok so Indiana has open primaries but it's not the case of all the states.
    Looks like 21 states has open primaries.
    In many other states you need to be a registered Democrat or Republican in order to vote in the primaries, if I understand it correctly.
