Quoting myself here because I had the thread yanked out from under me...

OK, now I'm starting to get PO'd. We've been having some break-ins around my neighborhood recently. Most of them have been in broad daylight. Its gotten bad enough that they are passing out flyers to let us know when it happens again. The other night they were bold enough to break a window out of a car in an attempt to steal a shotgun. They must really be bold or stupid because it was a police car!

The houses that have been burglarized had the front doors simply kicked in. The way those houses were built makes their front doors recessed into the house providing some cover. I suspect they knocked or rang the bell first and when they got no response, they kicked in the door. Although we've had no reports of any door to door solicitation.

At least my front door is relatively visible and I have a good sized dog that stays inside and barks loudly whenever anyone approaches. I also always have lights in the driveway and front yard at night. Of course there's also the standard lead based defense mechanisms available.

There's going to be a neighborhood meeting next week about forming a neighborhood watch. I will be attending.
