... therefore the finger off bang switch rule is stupid.

"John browning posing with his finger on the trigger.

Gun safety rules are for idiots who don't know what they are doing. John Browning was not an idiot."

I can think of a few reasons why this is wrong but I'd love to get some more, ammo, when arguing with people like this. Have any of you ever heard someone say this? I was a little shocked at first but then realized it's the internet.

Darwinian law will collect the weaker of the herd, but hopefully before they bring harm to anyone other than themselves. There are some really stupid people wandering around in the world.

People used to think the world was flat.
Not because they were all idiots, but because at the time, that was the evidence presented.
    Then, we learned better.

So J Brown didn't have to be an idiot. The rule just hadn't come out yet. The rule came out, because someone figured it out.
Doesn't make all the previous persons idiots.

    Their argument is invalid.

I recall photos of people holding single action revolvers with their fingers on the trigger. I'm guessing the manual of arms used to be that since you couldn't fire the weapon until you had manually cocked it, then 'finger on the trigger' wasn't a big deal, especially since you intended to fire after you cocked the hammer. JB was born into that culture of gun handling and "old habits die hard".

Maybe he was holding the shotgun in "cruiser ready"?

Yep. People used to drive cars without seatbelts too.

Safety is something that is learned though experience and time. Often the hard way.

Can someone do one of those old timey memes with the mustached dude: Think I got it.

"Gun safety? You mean always have one?"

    OR

"Gun safety? You mean keep it loaded?"

It's how they did it before the Four Rules were born.

Remember, gun "accidents" have dropped like a stone over the decades, especially per capita.

How frequent are these arguments you're having?
