Man, this really burns me up. But I don't see how they can shut them down since they are operated outside of the US. At this moment, there are approximately 215,000 players playing on Poker Stars. They can stop (or at least make it very difficult) for Americans to move money in and out, but I do not see how they can shut down a company that functions outside of the US.

i dont see how they can shut down the site, considering they run all over the world not just the u.s. The us makes it extremely hard to get money into offshore sports books, some of them dont even allow us players. You cant use credit or debit cards to deposit money, you have to wire money to some random guy named kevaughn in jamica. I dont understand why the us thinks its ok to bet at a sportsbook in vegas but i cant gamble from my own home.

They hate it because they don't get their cut at the cashiers window, like in Vegas.

Source? I didn't see that in the article.

[STRIKE]I don't have a source to point you to at the moment, but I'll try to find one.[/STRIKE] Poker Stars' servers used to operate from an Indian Reservation in Canada, and I [STRIKE]think they might be[/STRIKE] they are in the Isle of Man now. [STRIKE]I'll try to find the info for you[/STRIKE]. The US government already outlawed Poker sites from operating in the US, so they all operate outside of the country now.

    ^^This^^

Vegas makes sure to report any winnings to the IRS so that Uncle Sugar can get his cut.

The government will steal it. Since they were engaged in a "crime" that money will be forfeited to the government. Nice scam, huh?

In the past, the US government has claimed that they are not targeting US citizens' money. When they seized funds from Net Teller, the money was eventually released and US players eventually got their money. I suspect the same will happen now, but who knows how long it will take.

I just checked, and US players are now blocked from playing on Poker Stars. If you try to buy in to a tournament it says, "We are sorry but, due to government regulations, playing real money tournaments [or ring games] is not allowed in your area." It will not allow you to deposit either. Cashing out does not have any restrictions right now, but I suspect they would not process it.

It's more than that. It's the nanny state liberals meeting minds with the social conservatives. Congress had an opportunity last year to pass a bill that legalized, regulated and taxed online poker and they failed to do it.

It's about legislating morality and abusing power. It's also about some business folk that found ways around the will of the US government and are going to be made to pay a dear price for it. Apparently, they're falling all over themselves pointing fingers at each other to avoid it.

Why did this happen!? Because all other problems have been solved!!!

I wonder how many hours we've paid for employees of Uncle Sugar to play poker online just to make sure its legit. No risk involved, but it's not their money it is ours.

    You know, for research purposes.

I decided to look up where the other sites servers were located and found that Full Tilt has various server functions in Guernsey, "an EEA state," Ireland and Kahnawake Mohawk Territory in Canada.

But when I went to Absolutepoker.com, there is a notice that the domain name has been seized by the FBI. There also includes quotes of all the laws that are being broken. I wonder how they got their hands on the domain name of Absolute? Maybe it was operating on a US server.

As for Poker Stars, Americans are not being allowed to transfer money to other players, so if anyone was thinking of transferring money to a Canadian or European brother-in-law to get your money out, that's out too.
