Can you elaborate on that? Are you saying that only people who are in the security field should teach security protocols? Or are you saying that only people who've been in gun fights should teach shooting classes?
As for security protocols, seek out instruction from those in the 'security' field. This includes security, law enforcement, and similar agencies. It would make little sense to seek security protocol training from someone that works as, say, a watchmaker.

For "shooting classes", one should seek out training from an Instructor who actually shoots. It would be foolish to do otherwise. Likewise, for 'combat' training classes, IF one has the option, in their own best interests the 'student' should seek out information / training from an Instructor (Coach, etc.) whom has actually been through such a scenario(s). There are those Instructors and mentors out there, so IF one has the choice, choose one that has 'been there / done that'.

That said, ALL training is valuable, whether at home, on the range, bullseye shooting or 'combat' training. But, just as one would be best served seeking computer-build training from an Instructor that actually builds computers or engine repair instruction from a mechanic that actually repairs engines, one would be likewise best served by seeking out 'combat' training from an Instructor who has actually been in that situation.

Honestly, that's ridiculous. A computer builder builds computers CONSTANTLY. There is no comparison. Just because somebody survived A gunfight does not mean they are better equipped to present and evaluate defensive firearm tactics. In fact it doesn't even mean they used sound tactics doing so. It could in fact have been pure dumb luck, involving little or no skill or instinct. Survive a few thousand such encounters (as the computer builder has done) and there may be some credibility depending on the circumstances.

What about those of us who have had students survive gunfights? Same thing. It's a nice marketing tool if you decide to go that route with it. But I dare you to find SOLID, CREDIBLE research that shows any correlation between survivability of a gunfight based on how many gunfights your instructor has survived.

What about those who have AVOIDED violence because of what they have been taught?

The key is to keep training, and keep shooting. :twocents:
