Just what every university needs, eh? A SWAT team. How soon will it be before they're knocking down doors at 5AM to get those pesky weed smokers in the dorms? Seriously, folks. There's no university anywhere that needs a SWAT team. This is rising to the level of ridiculousness.

Is it a response only team? So when that active shooter or suicidal student (college freshman is one of the highest suicide demographics) becomes a barricaded subject that endangers officers or other students, they can get this team assembled in 20min instead of the standard city or county or state hour plus response time. The more vital role of the SWAT team isn't warrant service but rather violent subject response. SWAT team shows up and the actual use of lethal force rate drops 90% compare to patrol handling the same types of situation.

Not saying UNC couldn't or even won't abuse the fact that they have that asset because I can't predict the future, but I think there is a place for an asset in the area, whether it be from the school or the local municipality or the county, and I'm not familiar with the UNC area to know what they've already got available and what those response times actually look like. In the wake of the VT and NIU shootings many colleges have been going back to the drawing boards with emergency plans for a whole host of scenarios because conventional wisdom of seal it off and wait around wasn't working they way it did 25 years ago.

this is not gonna end well. a swat team on a college campus is a recipe for disaster. they want to dress up and play jbt now they have young inexperienced kids to experiment on.

Now the dorm assistants can call the SWAT when somebody is drinking alcohol in their room, or sneaking guests in after hours.

Are people not supposed to laugh at that picture? Cheaper Than Dirt wants their monthly catalog back. Nice sunglasses.
