Did anyone read this news US deploys 'game-changer' weapon to Afghanistan - Yahoo! News

I realize the media gets their facts a little skewed so taking that into consideration.

They had a paragraph in there that states:

"The gun's stats are formidable: it fires 25mm air-bursting shells up to 2,300 feet (700 meters), well past the range of most rifles used by today's soldiers,..."

A .22 will travel a mile (5280 ft). How is this 2,300 feet past the range of most rifles?
I would think the military's rifles will travel father than that.

Kind of sounds like the AA12 but different name.

There's max range and there's max effictive range. The standard weapon in the Army is the M-4.
    Maximum Range - 3,600 meters
Max Effective Range for a Point Target - 500 meters
Max Effective Range for an Area Target - 600 meters

They're probably talking about max effective range.

Exactly, a .22 might travel a mile at the proper trajectory with a stiff wind behind it, but it'll hit with all the power of a horsefly.
