How can I tell if my Uverse internet is a "stand-alone" or "dry-loop" setup? I want to turn off my Uverse VoIP phone and port the number to Ooma, but the porting process warned me to make sure it was "stand-alone."
A dry loop means that you dont already have a POTS line that it is riding on.
dry loop: own pair of wires
standard: runs on your home phone line and you have to install filters on the jacks that dont have the modem on it.
I had Dry DSL a couple years ago because I didnt want a home phone.
Thats sticky... I'd fire up a cable modem service and move your internet to that first. Otherwise you are asking for trouble tinkering with a phone line with data on top of it.
