The internet is again under attack using the guise of stopping terrorists. H.R. 3523, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) will give the Pentagon and NSA sovereignty over the internet and increase their ability to spy on Americans.

Even worse than SOPA: New CISPA cybersecurity bill will censor the Web
H.R. 3523, a piece of legislation dubbed the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (or CISPA for short), has been created under the guise of being a necessary implement in America’s war against cyberattacks. But the vague verbiage contained within the pages of the paper could allow Congress to circumvent existing exemptions to online privacy laws and essentially monitor, censor and stop any online communication that it considers disruptive to the government or private parties. Critics have already come after CISPA for the capabilities that it will give to seemingly any federal entity that claims it is threatened by online interactions, but unlike the Stop Online Privacy Act and the Protect IP Acts that were discarded on the Capitol Building floor after incredibly successful online campaigns to crush them, widespread recognition of what the latest would-be law will do has yet to surface to the same degree.

Fascism Comes to the Internet: Introducing CISPA
The CISPA acronym is probably the most honest of those proposed thus far, and certainly is self-explanatory: the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act. Cybersecurity initiatives themselves are framed in such a way as to declare the free and open Internet to be subsumed into national security infrastructure, thus giving it over to the Pentagon, NSA, and other agents for use in surveillance and even offensive war. However, CISPA goes one step further to suggest that all information transmitted on this national security infrastructure is fair game for the prying eyes of the State. Most likely the private sector must bow to any and all demands made, or face being labeled as supporters of terrorism.

The ever faithful Ron Paul speaks out against CISPA

Ron Paul says CISPA cyberterrorism bill would create 'Big Brother' culture
Simply put, Cispa encourages some of our most successful internet companies to act as government spies, sowing distrust of social media and chilling communications in one segment of the world economy where Americans still lead," said Paul."Imagine having government-approved employees embedded at Facebook, complete with federal security clearances serving as conduits for secret information about their American customers," he said.

Paul joins a chorus of critics including the White House as well the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Electronic Frontier Foundation and other civil rights groups that have been campaigning against the bill.

The bill's primary sponsor, Mike Rogers, told Talking Points Memo that there was a "strong chance" the bill would be passed by the House this week.

‎"House OKs CISPA" Sorry, I'm not buying the notion that a law designed to 'encourage' the government to 'exchange' Americans' personal info makes us more secure - cyber or otherwise. Justifying government intrusions on privacy in the name of our own safety is what got us the Patriot Act etal. Give me a veto pen!

All the yes' and pence need to go. Pence is a POS, always voting lockstep with lugar and friends in the senate. It's a shame so many idiots in Indian actually think he votes like he talks on the boob tube.

All the conservatives voted to erode civil liberties, and 2 flaming liberals voted in opposition. Now why is that?

Don't forget to keep voting for establishment Republicans... they're the only ones who can save us from a police state.

Gosh, based upon the education I've been getting from some INGO posts, one would think the conservative Republicans are the only people who can protect our freedoms. Have I been duped?

Well, we put our guns in safes, locked away from casual use to protect them. Conservatives take the same approach to freedom -- if you take it away from people and lock it up, it's protected! It's all very reasonable if you view government as the "adults" and the average citizen as a 3-year-old.
